So war es einst (Einleitung)
"It was once ..." begins the poem by Ivan Lutschuk "History of Poetry". NOW LIKE I also lead the way into the history of this anthology. I have a weakness for the compilation of anthologies. Well ... I like that, but I do not do '. What really means: I do research, but are, first, imaginary and, secondly, kind of strange. Such as "God, that hole," or "High-way, Ecclesiastes,"
So I have been invited by Markus Jaroschka pleased that meant for me an opportunity at last a small, but together an anthology of current Ukrainian literature really. I was excited about it and was also lost, because the pain was paired with the problem of choice of translations. Actually, both problems are closely linked. On the one hand, I stood before the selection of challenging and on top of translatable text, which would be transported without significant losses into German. On the other hand, I had to search for qualified interpreters and translators. For, though their numbers in recent times has grown slowly but surely, so only a few dare to approach the poetry. In addition, some are actively engaged in their own projects, so that they could hardly find time for the selected works of mine. The above said does not mean that the translators and interpreters, which I pledged to do just did not have. I would like here to thank them for their time, they have shown for my authors, very cordial. I hope that none of the interpreters and translators (and the readers) about the time invested will complain.
addition to compiling the anthology I was still the tricky task of writing an introduction to contemporary Ukrainian literature. First I wanted to delegate this task to competent professionals, a Saschko Bojtschenko about or Mykola Rjabtschuk. But that would cause some argued explanations on my part, why just these authors appear in the anthology and others are missing. I have selected nine of "these" authors, but could additional ninety of the "other" list. Their names on which every, but also any anthology would be proud, could then play in my anthology, a sort of companion or adjunct role. What would be really strange though, because the long list of names that are not even minimal, characteristics would be included, rather could remember a mass grave. But one would attach a list of characteristics, the whole thing would fall out too colorful and mosaic. And - not to forget! - I was afraid of forgetting someone, a ninety-first author. In the group of authors who have found no place in my anthology - how much I appreciate them and also love - there are some (I have known in advance) that have been in the German-speaking readers, even without my support for a name. How about Yuri Andruchowytsch in the yes - for the first time in Austria - in the clearings had more than poetry and prose appeared, Andruchowytsch gave me (and not only me and not only in Germany), with its frequent references helped. On this occasion, I want him, the "iron horse" of the Ukrainian literature in European context, say my thanks.
Modern Ukrainian literature is quite "competitive", when it comes to their inherent literary qualities such as diversity issues, problems, opinion, or classes and styles of representation goes. In this regard, the lyric tone . The Ukrainian drama plays, unfortunately - even though by now some interesting plays have been written - no noticeable role on the stage.
If the conversation turns to the important factors of the Ukrainian literary market is a whole fabric of social and economic complications visible, which, among other things, the current political situation in question, in turn, is itself deeply rooted in history. To speak of all this short and to the point is simply impossible. If one attempts, however, the matter thoroughly to bring to light, you risk the whole thing even more complicated confused present. (The Ukrainians, and especially the Ukrainian politicians should take the grievances of the first independence even on the ground to get rid of at least the post-colonial offspring of the former Soviet Union and the "brotherhood" of the Russian bear hugs and the internal clashes in the country and prejudices of the world that are caused by lack of information to overcome the banal.)
But enough of the political asides and back to the anthology and the people in it.
It may be that I have not always chosen for the authors presented the most striking works, but that was holding my almost instinctive attitude - who am I as the insertion followed God. I would never want to be at the site of a literary critic, who is condemned to analyze, characterize, interpret and simplify in this way, the magic that the art of the word, paradoxically, not the words themselves, but lies somewhere between the words. Even a simple poem can ungeschnörkeltes fascinating , Cast a complete absurdity and perversity can be a revelation. For that I envy the congenial interpreters and translators who have the ability, all original, with all its subtleties (which may include intentional mistakes and inconsistencies) to see and perceive and with the resources of another language play
... In my anthology, there are authors who have become my friends because I was so fascinated by her work. Once again in this life I have their word magic, the uniqueness of their poetic perception inspired. Something private or even intimate that connects me with any of them or there is even a kind of kinship. You might think it is easier to characterize such a person, but in reality I find it more difficult. Among the most difficult cases are those to which I have a special relationship: my literary family, my friends from the poetic triad "LuHoSad" (this name, which is compiled from the first syllables of our family name, could be translated into German as "Augarten"). The poetry of my two "brothers in poetry" is to help me now.
Ivan Lutschuk who will put together the best of the anthologies and much better than I can write about his friend poet explains the concept of the Augarten Poetry:
THREE WHALES
The world is
common dream of the three brothers.
In the dry fountain hid the storm -
that dream remains deep in the memory.
Scrub is the lamp - the genie is already out -
Sun easy to get back the dream.
The brothers dream is forever,
he is in fact the world.
novel Sadlows'kyi must assist in the evaluation of my accompanying word:
... I had myself
drilled in the war sent
the gun but I had forgotten God
... thanks ...
The quote is the poem "The text" removed, which ends with the following line:
... again I can not explain anything ...
